Sarkaslampi is one of the Saimaa UNESCO Global Geopark sites in Juva, offering a striking journey through rugged lake and rock landscapes shaped over millions of years.

A marked circular trail of about 6 km leads around the northern end of Lake Sarkaslampi, showcasing dramatic scenery and important ancient sites, including a prehistoric quartz quarry and two fascinating rock paintings. The route is demanding and best suited to experienced hikers with a good level of fitness. Sturdy footwear, snacks, and plenty of time are recommended.

Along the trail, you’ll pass through diverse natural environments – from lush flood forests and spruce-filled wetlands to open rocky outcrops and scenic lakeshores. Towering cliffs rise up to 30–50 metres above the water, revealing the fault lines of ancient bedrock and creating a powerful wilderness atmosphere.

Highlights include steep rock faces along the shoreline of Sarkaslampi, as well as a narrow valley near Ristilampi, where cliffs rise on both sides. In between, you’ll find hidden gems such as fern-rich groves with small streams and old-growth forest, offering a peaceful contrast to the dramatic surroundings.

This destination is perfect for those who appreciate raw natural beauty, geological wonders, and a truly immersive outdoor experience.
