Muisti Centre of War and Peace

Muisti Centre of War and Peace is a modern museum which examines the effects of war from the perspective of human experience.

Muisti - Center of War and Peace, located in Mikkeli city center, is a modern museum that examines the effects of war from the perspective of human experience. Through immersive storytelling and interactive exhibitions, it reveals what war felt like for those who lived through it—how it shaped societies in the past, and how its effects continue to influence the world today.

Housed in a historic building that once served as the Finnish military headquarters during the Second World War, Muisti combines past and present in a unique setting. This over 1,000 m² exhibition space stands on the very site where critical decisions were made. The building is also home to the Headquarters Museum, established in 1974, where visitors can step inside the restored office of Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim and experience history where it happened.

Together, Muisti and the Headquarters Museum offer a compelling and multi-layered museum experience - one that explores war not just as a historical event, but as a deeply human phenomenon.

Muisti shares the stories and experiences of war to inspire understanding and promote peace. It is a place for the curious, the reflective, and even for those who never thought they were interested in war history.
